5G adoption is on the rise worldwide, with Asia leading the way in terms of device connections with more than 70% connected already. According to GSMA, Asia is forecasted to have 1.8 billion connections by 2025. The rapid adoption in Asia has been driven by close collaboration between local operators and governments, as well as the need for innovation spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Initially, there was skepticism about the value of 5G networks, but now, there are many emerging use cases in Asia, from medicine delivery in Thailand to smart city operations in China. While we are still in the early stages of 5G adoption, companies are exploring how to best leverage the unique characteristics of 5G in combination with 4G-LTE and other connectivity solutions.
